We’ve all heard about lent, but exactly what is it? Is it a day dedicated to those annoying little fuzz balls that come from your dryer? Not hardly, Webster’s Online Dictionary defines it as , the 40 days between Ash Wednesday and Easter Sunday observed as a time of pertinence and fasting.

Senior (Seniors name here) said it is basically just giving up something or doing something like volunteering somewhere in honor of the holiday. “I’m giving up chips and stuff like that” said senior about her sacrifices.

The “rules” of lent also say that are to substain from eating meat on Ash Wednesday and all Fridays during the holiday. Which means we can look forward to fish patties every Friday for the next 40 days. This rule applies to all Catholics up to age 60. It is also supposed to limit their eating to one full meal and two lighter meals for the day. Catholics are also asked to go to confession and receive Holy Communion at least once during this time.

The huge party known today as Mardi-Gras has become the celebration or last “hoo-rah” before the sacrifices made during lent.
